CAMPO Proposition II Call for Applicants – State of Texas Transportation Funding |  $13.4 million awarded to improve U.S. Highway 183 in Lockhart | This successful grant application was my Pedestrians in Colorado Street JPEGprimary intern responsibility. It was a response to a call for applicants for state funds administered by the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) for transportation improvements. The process was very competitive. Lockhart received $13.4 million in TxDOT funding to widen a section of US 183 (Colorado Street) to include continuous 8-foot shared path sidewalks, a center two-way left-turn lane, and curb and gutter. The project involved public participation and coordination with property owners along the corridor. It let to contract in 2013 | Colorado Street Corridor in the news

Keep Texas Beautiful Annual Governor’s Community Achievement Awards | Proposal: Keep Lockhart Beautiful | $160,000 requested  on behalf of entire community of Lockhart | This grant application was my primary responsibility. For more than two decades, Keep Texas Beautiful, in partnership with the Texas Department of keep_texas_beautifulTransportation (TxDOT), awarded the prestigious Governor’s Community Achievement Awards (GCAA) to ten Texas communities with the best grassroots environmental programs in the state each year. The competition distributed $2 million in funding from TxDOT across ten communities, with the amount based on population size. The funds are used for landscaping projects along local rights-of-way. Our application was scored competitively, an accomplishment considering the city had never participated before, but ultimately lost out to Katy, Texas.
