CAMPO Proposition II Call for Applicants – State of Texas Transportation Funding | $13.4 million awarded to improve U.S. Highway 183 in Lockhart | This successful grant application was my primary intern responsibility. It was a response to a call for applicants for state funds administered by the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO) for transportation improvements. The process was very competitive. Lockhart received $13.4 million in TxDOT funding to widen a section of US 183 (Colorado Street) to include continuous 8-foot shared path sidewalks, a center two-way left-turn lane, and curb and gutter. The project involved public participation and coordination with property owners along the corridor. It let to contract in 2013 | Colorado Street Corridor in the news
Keep Texas Beautiful Annual Governor’s Community Achievement Awards | Proposal: Keep Lockhart Beautiful | $160,000 requested on behalf of entire community of Lockhart | This grant application was my primary responsibility. For more than two decades, Keep Texas Beautiful, in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), awarded the prestigious Governor’s Community Achievement Awards (GCAA) to ten Texas communities with the best grassroots environmental programs in the state each year. The competition distributed $2 million in funding from TxDOT across ten communities, with the amount based on population size. The funds are used for landscaping projects along local rights-of-way. Our application was scored competitively, an accomplishment considering the city had never participated before, but ultimately lost out to Katy, Texas.
